Long before the days of Madonna, Kylie and the former wife of Rupert Murdoch Gilbert and Sullivan gave us a hero who in reality is only five years old, the ultimate Toy Boy! This is because of course, Frederic our hero was born in a leap year, he is indentured to the Pirate King until he reaches his 21st birthday which technically is 63 years away!

Because this is Gilbert & Sullivan he happens upon Mabel who is the daughter of Major General Stanley and within three pages they are madly in love. Frederic still has the slight problem of not being released for a long, long time but Mabel, fool though she is, has promised she will wait. Into the mix we have would be Johnny Depps’ leaping about as Pirates and a bevy of females who are, allegedly, the daughters of the Major General. The denouement is reached only when the Cornish Police Force confront the Pirates. This you might think is a one-sided battle…. or is it?! And all of this to some of the most recognisable songs and lyrics ever written.
